What an interesting blog! I, too, share many of he same experiences as you in traveling through Guatemala and Peru. My funniest memory in Antigua was how some of the local women (selling their wares to unsuspecting tourists) were able to speak English, almost as well as me! They are very native looking and when you first see them, never suspect that their English is as good as you might expect. Hope I can go back there...truly a magical and beautiful place to visit.
